Three images featuring Class 44 diesel engines or “peaks” as they were known to rail enthusiasts. There were only 10 Class 44s, all built in either 1959 or 1960, and whilst rare by number, they were regular visitors to Peterborough on freight duties, in particular on fly-ash trains travelling to and from the Fletton pits.
These three images from 1977 feature 44007 “Ingleborough” (top) and 44008 “Penyghent” (below) in the other two ….. the latter surviving today at Peak rail, Matlock as one of two preserved Class 44s.
