Road Sewer Workers

Busy building new sewers somewhere around the city centre (possibly Bishops Road) in the 1920s, this was a typical subject matter for local photographers who would rush out a small print run of postcards that have, today, become highly sought after social history items.

This one was captured by Lancashire born Squire Augustus George Phillipps (below) of 16 Narrow Street and who worked in various locations in the city through to 1958.
