The Great Storm at Walton (1916)

A series of images captured the aftermath of what was dubbed the “Great Storm” on 28th March 1916, all of them taken along Lincoln Road in Walton and all taken by local photographer Tom Smith Wilson.

Tom was born in New England in 1877 and was operating as a “photographer’s apprentice” by the time he was 14 years old. At the time of the storm, he was living near the Triangle at 543 Lincoln Road, describing himself as an “Artistic Photographer” but there was little room for artistry on this particular morning !
