Wootton’s grocery shop pictured around 1890 with the base of the old village cross standing just to the left of the frontage. Today the “stump” has been repositioned on the village green.
The grocery and drapery shop was owned by Castor born Thomas Wootton (1847-1909) who was, not surprisingly, a grocer and a tailor.
