The old 1835 built East Almshouses just prior to their demolition in 1903 and subsequent replacement by current buildings courtesy of a £5,000 legacy from Miss Frances Pears, hence Miss Pear’s Almshouses that recently housed Topo-Gigio’s pizza restaurant and which still stands today.
