Fire at Towngate, Market Deeping (1905)

Buckets of water being moved along the line in Market Deeping in 1905 in an effort to put out two stack fires on Towngate. The fire had been started by two “mischievous” 14 year olds, one of who proclaimed that he had started the fire wilfully and not by accident !

The location pictured is at the site of the Grade II listed medieval Towngate Cross and can be see in more recent times in the image below.
