An iconic image for all local anglers as hopeful locals line the old Electricity Cut on a freezing cold day in search of “the big one” !
The old cut, accessed via River Lane, carried water from the power station which was still warm – hence the steam – and which, legend had it, attracted some mighty big carp. At one point, the biggest carp caught in a UK river was caught here and the unusual venue briefly attained cult status amongst big fish anglers.
