Railway Share Certificate (1846)

An old 1846 Share Certificate from the Peterborough and Nottingham Junction Railway Company which appears to have been a short-lived company overseeing the construction of the Peterborough to Nottingham line via Stamford in the mid-1800s.

Alistair Nisbet adds, “this fits perfectly the description of a Bubble Railway – perhaps the best description of this is one which was floated during the Railway Mania but which never came to anything. Some of these were genuine schemes but which just ran out of money whereas others were simply fraudulent schemes whereby the share money just ‘disappeared’.”
