Home City Centre Bridge Street Rivergate c.1907

Rivergate c.1907

A tough image to match up as the original was taken to the left-centre of where the current Town Bridge is now sited, probably from the old Midland Railway grain warehouse that stood on this spot.

Today’s 1934 concrete bridge is wider than the original 1872 cast iron bridge and seemingly a little further downstream, exiting across the quayside in the centre of the original image.

Very little remains from the original scene as most buildings have now been lost to redevelopment.
