The first stage of the “station quarter” redevelopment commenced with the demolition of the old Royal Mail sorting and mailing office on Bourges Boulevard. The work migrated from the offices from 1996 onwards to new premises on Papyrus Road, Werrington.
Initial plans are to build a 500 space car-park on the site but, ultimately, the area will be embraced by the redevelopment of the railway station area – plans for which have yet to be finalised.
