“In 1946/47 we lived in the village of Uffington. On May 1st the girls of the village would pick wild flowers to make garlands that they wore as they danced around the maypole which we would move around to different locations by horse and cart. My job was to stand in the centre and make sure the pole did not tip over.

Although I only lived there for a short time, this village and its people became important in our family as my sister Brenda and her husband Tom Francis lived there until they passed away in 2015, 2018 respectively as did my Mother who moved back after Dad died until she passed away in 1999”.
